Wikipedia describes Business Administration as, "The performance or management of business operations and decision making, as well as the efficient organization of people and other resources, to direct activities toward common goals and objectives".

So we can see that it's a whole lot more than just filling out paperwork!

Having the right organisational and administration structure is vital to the growth of your business.

Knowing what your business goals and objectives are is crucial to actually achieving them!

Running your own business is totally different to having a boss that manages your workflow. They are your accountability to stay on track.

It's now up to you to be multi skilled, driven and have a great sense of focus.

When you want to travel somewhere and you don't know how to get there what is the first thing you do? You look at a map, or if you have an iPhone, Google Maps. Your map will show you exactly how to get to where you are headed.

In your business your map is your goals and objectives. If you don't have a clear sense of what these are your business will lose direction and momentum. It will be easy to stagnate, become overwhelmed and lose heart. In reality you may have had an awesome business idea, but you just didn't setup some goals to help direct you and keep you on track.

So let's do that now!

What are you business goals and objectives? ~

- Why did you want to start your own business?

- What is it that you're passionate about in your business?

- Is there an area you want to bring change into?

- Is there a new concept you want to teach people?

- Where do you want your business to be in 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years?

- How do you see yourself growing in your business?

Once you've identified your goals and written them all done (make sure they're specific and include target dates) then focus on what are the 2 or 3 main target areas that will keep your business moving forward.

In those 2 or 3 main target areas, what is the "next step" that you can do right now, to keep that momentum going?

By continually reviewing, plotting and planning your goals and objectives it will help keep you energised and excited about the bigger picture, as well as focused on the detailed steps you need to take.

They help you realise the value of your time and answer workflow questions such as:

- What are the important tasks that need to be done daily, weekly, monthly?

- What are the distractions that I should avoid?

- What are the non essential tasks that can be done later?

Good luck!
